Making Music Come Alive ... Legally!**

Understanding Copyrights, Performance & Recording Licenses
Composers / Authors / Printers / Proprietors / Publishers /
Copyrights / and more!

This presentation covers topics related to purchasing legal copies of sheet
music (and protecting those copies) and then explain the fees that must be
paid to the copyright holder to use the music for performances and for
audio or video recordings.

**One major change, which was re-researched in December 2007
is that it is illegal to make any working copies of the original sheet music.
Earlier documentation supporting the practice of making working copies,
are no longer available, so I have rewritten parts of pages 5 and 6.

This document was featured in a four-part series
in the 2007 Pitchpipe Magazines published by Sweet Adelines International and
in the 2007 July/August Harmonizer published by the Barbershop Harmony Society.
